Prof. Venkataraman Thangadurai

High Energy and Power Density All-Solid-State Metal Batteries

 

Venkataraman Thangadurai is a full professor of chemistry at the University of Calgary, Calgary, Canada. He received his PhD from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India in 1999 and did his PDF at the University of Kiel, Germany. He received a prestigious PDF fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Bonn, Germany. In 2004, Dr. Thangadurai received his Habilitation degree from the University of Kiel. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), Fellow of Royal Society of Canada and Fellow of the Electrochemical Society (USA). He has published 260 scientific papers in international refereed journals; H-index: 66. He has received the Keith Laidler Award from the Canadian Chemical Society (CSC) in Canada in 2016 and the Award for Research Excellence in Materials Chemistry by the CSC in 2021. Dr. Thangadurai is co-founder of two start-ups based on his lithium electrolytes research. His current research interests include discovery of novel solid-state materials for electrochemical clean energy storage and conversion devices.

Role Of Energy Innovations In Achieving The Net Zero Carbon Emissions Goal

 

Dr. D. Yogi Goswami is a Distinguished Professor and Director of the Clean Energy Research Center at the University of South Florida. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Solar Compass, journal of the International Solar Alliance. Within the field of energy he has published 23 books, more than 400 papers, and holds 35 patents. Professor Goswami has made transformative contributions to the field of Solar Energy, including Thermodynamic Power Cycles, and Solar photocatalytic Detoxification and Disinfection of Air and Water. He developed a new combined Power and Cooling Cycle, now known as the Goswami Cycle, which has resulted in global research in a new class of Combined Cycles with multiple outputs. He pioneered the development of photo-electrochemical oxidation (PECO) technology for disinfection of air, which is now available commercially as “Molekule”. Products based on this invention are helping allergy and asthma sufferers. Dr. Goswami has developed successful industrial ventures based on his inventions and innovations. Dr. Goswami’s textbook, Principles of Solar Engineering based on his classroom teaching, is now in its 4th edition and is being used worldwide. Prof. Goswami has served as the President of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES), and a Governor and Senior Vice President of ASME-International among many professional leadership positions. As a leader in professional societies, he developed a number of energy policy options and impacted energy policies in many countries by direct interaction with their leaders. Dr. Goswami is a recipient of the highest awards of many professional societies related to solar energy including the Farrington Daniels Award and Karl Boer Medal for Solar Energy from International Solar Energy Society, and the Charles Greely Abbott award from American Solar Energy Society, the Frank Kreith Energy award and John Yellott Solar Energy award from ASME, and the Joan Hodges Queneau Palladium Medal from the American Association of Engineering Societies. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, AAAS, ASME, ASES, ASHRAE, ISES and a member of the Pan American Academy of Engineers and has been inducted in the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame.

Thermal Energy Storage Technologies For Achieving Net-Zero Emissions

 

Prof. Changying Zhao is the Chair Professor, the Director of Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, and the Dean of China-UK Low Carbon College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Prof. Zhao’s research interests mainly cover micro/nano-scale thermal radiation and metamaterial energy devices, advanced energy storage and smart energy system, and phase change heat transfer in porous media. He has published over 260 high-quality papers in prestigious journals like Nature Materials, Physical Review Letters, Nano Letters, Physical Review B, International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, Annual Review of Heat Transfer, Energy and Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering Journal, etc., which are cited more than 15000 times in total. He has also been one of the Most Cited Chinese Researchers by Elsevier every year since 2014 and he has been granted more than 40 invention patents. Prof. Zhao was awarded the William Begell Medal in 2023 for his excellence in thermal science and engineering based on his lifetime achievements, and Shanghai Natural Science Award (First Class) in 2020. Moreover, he was awarded twice the Best Paper Award of the ASME Micro/Nanoscale Heat and Mass Transfer International Conference held in 2013 and 2019, respectively. Prof. Zhao serves as a member of the Scientific Council of International Center for Heat and Mass Transfer (ICHMT), Founding Fellow and Executive Board Member of the Asian Union of Thermal Sciences and Engineering (AUTSE), Vice Director of Heat Transfer Society of China, as well as Board Member of the Nukiyama Memorial Award. Prof. Zhao is also the Editor-in-Chief of Carbon Neutrality, Associate Editor of Thermal Science and Engineering Progress, as well as Editorial Board Member of several other distinguished journals.

Prof. Dr. André P.C. Faaij :Director of Science, TNO Energy & Material Transition, The Netherlands largest energy research organization with some 900 co-workers. Combined with a part time chair as Professor Energy System Analysis at Utrecht University and University of Groningen (RUG). Ongoing research covers energy system integration questions, model development, transition processes towards low carbon energy systems and related innovation and policy questions. Member of a variety of expert groups in energy policy bio-energy, research and strategic planning. Prof. Jean-marie tarascon

Jean-Marie Tarascon is Professor at the College de France holding the chair “Chemistry of solids – Energy), but much of his early career was spent in US where he discovered the plastic Li-ion technology. Back to France in 1995, he created the European network of excellence ALISTORE-ERI and more recently the French network on electrochemical energy storage (RS2E). Tarascon’s present research is devoted to battery materials/electrolytes, novel reactivity concepts, chemistries beyond Li .and sensing . He is the author of ~700 scientific papers, detains ~100 patents and received many honours, with the last ones being the 2020’s Balzan prize and the CNRS 2022 Gold medal.


Prof. Mingfa Yao

Application of Fuel Chemical Energy Storage in Zero Carbon Energy Power Systems

 

Prof. Mingfa Yao, who was graduated and gotten PhD degree from Tianjin University in 1999. He is a chair professor of Tianjin University, head of the Innovation Research Group supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. From March 2009 to March 2021, he served as the director of the State Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engines (Tianjin University). In 2011, he was awarded the National Outstanding Young Scholarship supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Prof. Yao has been engaged in the research of engine combustion reaction kinetics, combustion theory and combustion technology. In recent years, he has focused on researching fuel chemical energy storage and zero carbon energy power systems. He has chaired more than 50 key cooperation projects supported by government and industry, and is the head of the national key R&D planning project. His outstanding technical contributions and leadership are in advanced engine combustion. His significant achievements have benefited automotive industries and educational institutes. He published in international journals 300 papers, which were cited more than 10000 times. He was awarded the "Distinguished Visiting Fellow Award" by the Royal Engineering Society, and was selected as a fellow of SAE International and a fellow of Combustion Institute in 2020.


Prof S. A. Abbasi

Prof S. A. Abbasi has been a full university professor and centre director during 1987-2015 and is an Emeritus Professor since then. Prior to it he was Head-in-charge of the Water Quality & Environment Division at the Centre for Water Resources, Kozhikode (1979-87), and a Visiting-cum-adjunct Professor at California State University (1984-1987). He has also been a Visiting Professor at the universities of Minnesota, Florida, California−Berkeley, Malaya and Al-Ahsa. With 46 books, over 400 papers in indexed journals, 10 patents, over 20,300 citations and a Hirsch Index currently at 78, Prof Abbasi is among the world’s foremost experts in the fields of process safety and environmental engineering. In the recent Stanford University study, he was ranked among the world’s top 0.5% scientists, and the latest AD Scientific rankings puts him among the India’s top two in environmental science & engineering. Prof Abbasi is also well-known for his poetry (ghazal and geet), fiction, and his work on fostering inter-faith harmony. Renewable Energy Systems: Current Status in the World and Prospects.

 

Professor Soteris Kalogirou is at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Sciences and Engineering of the Cyprus University of Technology, Limassol, Cyprus. He is currently the Vice Rector on Economics, Personnel and Development of the university. In addition to his Ph.D., he holds the title of D.Sc. He is a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and Founding Member of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts. He is also the Principal Representative of the university to the university alliance European University of Technology (EUt+). For more than 35 years, he is actively involved in research in the area of solar energy and particularly in flat plate and concentrating collectors, solar water heating, solar steam generating systems, desalination, photovoltaics, geothermal energy and absorption cooling. He has a large number of publications in books, book chapters, international scientific journals and refereed conference proceedings. He is Editor-in-Chief of Renewable Energy and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Energy, and Editorial Board Member of another twenty journals. He is the editor of the book Artificial Intelligence in Energy and Renewable Energy Systems, published by Nova Science Inc., co-editor of the book Soft Computing in Green and Renewable Energy Systems, published by Springer, editor of the book McEvoy’s Handbook of Photovoltaics, published by Academic Press of Elsevier and author of the books Solar Energy Engineering: Processes and Systems, and Thermal Solar Desalination: Methods and Systems, published by Academic Press of Elsevier.
